GRS model mirrors Sarawak’s inclusive governance: Joniston
KIULU: Local political parties choosing to stand alone in the coming state election are not supporting the people’s call for unity and political stability, said GRS information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai (pic).

He said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition has proven its ability to govern inclusively with long-term development in mind, similar to the model adopted in Sarawak.

Joniston pointed to Sarawak’s ruling coalition, where Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) holds a majority but continues to work with other parties for the State’s collective benefit.

He made the remarks during a meet-the-people session and Papawantai Taasok ceremony here on Saturday, responding to Warisan and PKDM’s intention to contest independently.

Joniston said while parties are free to make their own decisions, Sabahans will ultimately judge based on outcomes and the ability to maintain political stability through collaboration.

He also reminded the public of past attempts by Warisan and PKDM to align with Umno in a bid to unseat Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, which he said ran counter to public interest.

Joniston also highlighted continued rural development under the Sabah Maju Jaya roadmap and urged voters to support leadership focused on delivering results despite ongoing challenges.
