Woman arrested over abandoned baby case in LD

LAHAD DATU: A 30-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a newborn baby left outside a house in Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali, on July 18.

District police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the woman was detained on Sunday at the district police headquarters and admitted to giving birth at her home before placing the baby outside.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment, which carries a sentence of up to seven years' jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Police have applied for a remand order to assist investigations, which are being led by the district’s Crime Investigation Division.
