KOTA KINABALU: A 19-year-old man pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping his cousin in Tuaran, first in 2019 when she was seven, and again in 2024 when she was 12.

He was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which carries up to 20 years’ jail and whipping.

The court set mention for Aug 27 and granted RM3,000 bail with conditions, including police reporting and no contact with the victim.

The prosecution initially objected to bail, citing the familial relationship and risk to witnesses.

The defence argued the accused was unemployed, voluntarily came forward, and cares for ill parents.
