KOTA BELUD: A couple were found dead following a house fire in Kampung Sangkir in the early hours of Thursday.

Firefighters discovered the two victims in the bathroom of the single-storey house, which was completely destroyed along with a Proton Saga parked nearby.

District Fire and Rescue Station chief Elge Bakuk said his team received the emergency call at 2.52am and arrived shortly after with 10 personnel and two vehicles.

The fire was brought under control by 3.22am, and the bodies were handed over to police for post-mortem at the Kota Belud Hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with the operation concluding at 4.55am once the area was declared safe.
