TAWAU: Eight homes were affected in a fire that broke out at the water village settlement in Kampung Cempaka Batu 4, Jalan Apas, around 9.15pm on Friday.

A 50-year-old woman suffered burns to her hand and received emergency treatment at the scene, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

Of the eight homes involved, five were completely destroyed while three others sustained about 10 percent damage.

Twenty-five personnel from the Tawau Fire and Rescue Station were deployed following an emergency call received at 9.24pm via the Mers999 hotline.

The operation was also supported by nine members of the Kampung Titingan Community Fire Brigade.
