TAWAU: Police apprehended an 18-year-old foreigner in the Tawau Lama area near Batu 3, Jalan Apas, on Saturday following a report of an assault involving an iron pipe.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters for further questioning.
Police also confiscated a long iron rod believed to have been used as a weapon in the attack.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect at a workshop in the area.
The altercation turned violent when the suspect allegedly struck the victim with the metal rod, causing injuries.
Acting on the victim’s report, police launched an operation to track down and arrest the suspect.
