KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist died in a solo crash along Jalan Pintas Penampang early Sunday morning.
City police chief ACP Kasim Muda said the accident occurred around 2am near 88 Commercial Centre as the rider was heading towards Jalan Lintas.
Initial investigations found that the Yamaha Y15ZR rider lost control and veered left before falling into a 10-metre concrete drain.
The impact caused the rider to be thrown into the drain and he was pronounced dead at the scene due to serious head injuries.
Further checks revealed the rider did not have a valid driving licence and the motorcycle was registered under another person’s name.
The weather at the time was clear and traffic along the road was light, ACP Kasim added.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with police urging all road users to stay cautious, especially at night.
