Kota Kinabalu: Some 100 golfers are expected to take part in the 39th Sabah Amateur Open golf tournament organised by Sabah Golf Association (SGA) scheduled to be held at the Sabah Golf and Country Club from August 15-17.
The annual event recognised as a prominent fixture in the SGA and Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) calendar is expected to draw a diverse pool of participants, including golfers from various regions within Malaysia.
It also holds the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) status, rendering it accessible to all amateur golfers with current WHS (the world handicap system) handicap index of 10.7 (14) or lower for men and 20.1 (24) or lower for ladies.
SGA President Nash Hon in a statement released on Tuesday urged golf enthusiasts to seize the opportunity to engage in the competition and camaraderie against some of the nation’s most accomplished golfers.
He also said the tournament will serve as a platform to select players based on merit points to represent Sabah at the SGA Cup against Sarawak later this year.
He added that the tournament offers attractive prizes including a Hole-in-One for a Proton X70 sponsored by Progressive Insurance Bhd. on Hole No. 8 and Hole No. 17
in addition to 10 gross and 10 nett prizes for the men’s category, and three gross and three nett prizes for the ladies.
The registration fee for local participants is set at RM450 and US$180 for foreign players.
