LAHAD DATU: A 36-year-old father has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane for raping his 13-year-old daughter in their home in Tungku.

Session Court Judge Suhaila Selag emphasised that the sentence served as a stark warning to society, highlighting the accused's betrayal of his duty as a protector.

The court found the unemployed man guilty of failing to raise a reasonable doubt, leading to his immediate committal to prison and the order for corporal punishment.

He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, a provision addressing aggravated sexual assault.

His jail term commences from the date of conviction.
