MACC’s role goes beyond anti-graft efforts: Ahmad Khusairi

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) plays a role not only in combating corruption but also in helping the government curb long-term leakages, said Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya.

He said Sabah’s efforts to prevent financial leakages would have lasting benefits for all stakeholders.

Speaking at the Sabah MACC director handover ceremony on Wednesday, Ahmad Khusairi said the agency must support state policies that address both corruption and administrative inefficiencies.

Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, currently MACC Director of Penang, was announced as the new Sabah MACC Director effective 15 August, replacing Datuk Karunanithy Y Subbiah who will take over Fuad’s position in Penang.

Ahmad Khusairi said Karunanithy had strengthened public confidence in Sabah MACC and led several major operations during his tenure.

He commended Karunanithy’s leadership, calling it firm and strategic in navigating complex challenges in the State.

Fuad, a native of Sabah, is expected to bring a renewed and strategic momentum to the anti-corruption drive in his home state.

In his farewell speech, Karunanithy credited Sabah MACC’s operational and preventive successes to close cooperation with federal and state departments, as well as the media.

He also thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong for supporting governance reforms and anti-corruption initiatives throughout his nearly six-year term.

Also present at the ceremony were Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Seri Rosli Isa, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, and Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.
