Kota Kinabalu: Netizens piled pressure on Sabah police, Thursday, after the Federal Attorney General’s Chambers returned the preliminary investigation papers on the the death of a student, Zara Qairina Mahathir for being incomplete.
In a viral video, user @chrissycicy expressed disbelief over claims that Zara had fallen from the third floor. She questioned the absence of witnesses and raised doubts about the enforcement of hostel curfews.
“If no one saw her fall, who said she fell from the third floor? And why were students still roaming around at 3am if curfew starts at 10?” she said.
She questioned whether the police forensic team comprised interns.
“Now that netizens are doing your job, you get upset,” she said.
Echoing these concerns, TikTok user @hajarhassan64 criticised the failure to perform a post-mortem, despite injuries.
She also questioned police’s failure to collect Zara’s clothes on the night of the incident, saying, “What if there was DNA or blood on them? Isn’t that basic investigation?”
“Without a transparent investigation, all of this means nothing. And now, we’re forced to wait again while the papers are returned to PDRM,” she said.
Another netizen @blackflag7777 asked whether the forensics team are qualified.
He criticised the initial forensic findings for reportedly failing to detect visible bruising or trauma, despite Zara’s mother later suspecting signs of violence and filing an additional police report.
