KOTA KINABALU: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Sabah office seized 16,180 litres of diesel worth RM34,650 in a raid at an unnumbered premises in Jalan Bunga Raya, Kepayan, on Thursday.
A four-wheel drive Toyota Land Cruiser and related equipment were also confiscated, while a local man in his 20s was detained to assist investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
The 10.30am operation was carried out following two weeks of surveillance and public tip-offs, with initial checks revealing the premises had no valid licence to store controlled goods.
KPDN warned that individuals convicted under the Act face fines of up to RM1 million or three years’ jail, while companies may be fined up to RM2 million.
The ministry urged the public to report any misuse of subsidised fuel to help prevent losses to the people and the country.
