KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Deputy President Datuk Yong Wui Chung urged the Education Ministry to urgently review the primary school syllabus, saying it is too advanced for children’s cognitive levels and even challenging for some parents and teachers to understand.
He said the current curriculum places an unnecessary burden on families, creates educational imbalance, and negatively impacts the quality of learning.
“Primary school should be about shaping character and building cognitive foundations, not academic competition,” Yong said in a statement on Saturday.
He added that many parents have voiced frustration over the difficulty of helping their children with homework, often leaving pupils to cope with stress on their own.
