SELANGOR: Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang urged the government to enact more inclusive policies and provide fair allocations to support Indigenous communities.

At the same time, she emphasised that these measures are crucial for the empowerment of Indigenous women and the preservation of their cultural heritage, language, and traditional practices at the National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration (PHOAS) 2025 at Tadom Hill Resort in Selangor, Saturday.

The event, held in conjunction with the United Nations’ International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, also saw the launch of the Pertubuhan Wanita Orang Asal Malaysia (PWOAM), the Malaysian Indigenous Women’s Organisation.

PWOAM, officially registered in January 2024, aims to strengthen leadership and increase women’s participation in decision-making processes, while also defending community lands, territories and resources.
