4 Malaysians among 79 arrested in nation-wide drug bust in Singapore
Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau said follow-up investigations on the suspects are ongoing.
SINGAPORE: Four Malaysians were among 79 suspected drug offenders arrested in an island-wide anti-drug operation in Singapore from Aug 4 to 8.

Drugs estimated to be worth more than S$470,000 (RM1.55 million) were seized.

The Central Narcotics Bureau said 3,457gm of heroin, 909gm of methamphetamine, 3gm of cannabis, five ecstasy tablets, five Erimin-5 tablets and one bottle of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) were seized during the operation.

CNB said a 25-year-old Malaysian man was first arrested at the Woodlands checkpoint on Aug 5 for attempting to smuggle drugs into Singapore in a Malaysian-registered car.

Officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority found several biscuit packages suspected to contain controlled drugs on the rear passenger seat.

“CNB officers were immediately alerted and conducted further checks. The biscuit packages were later found to contain about 2,033gm of heroin and 731gm of methamphetamine,” CNB said in a statement today.

On Aug 6, CNB officers arrested a 39-year-old Malaysian man and a 43-year-old Malaysian woman, together with a 53-year-old Singaporean man, for suspected drug offences following raids in Jurong West and Henderson Road.

The Malaysian man was found with 60gm of methamphetamine and a keycard to a hotel room in Geylang.

“CNB officers swiftly raided the hotel room and found 1,421gm of heroin, 62gm of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia,” CNB said.

It said that after follow-up investigations, a 28-year-old Malaysian man was arrested in Tampines later in the day in a second operation.

Further investigations into arrested suspects are ongoing.
