No link with our daughter, says family
The family who feared for their safety lodged a police report at Lahad Datu Police Headquarters at 2.30pm on August 8.
LAHAD DATU: The family of a former student at SMK (A) Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan, Papar lodged a police report over claims linking their daughter to the case of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Muhammad Yasim when contacted said his 16-year-old daughter had already transferred to Kolej Vokasional Lahad Datu (KVLD) early 2025.

“My daughter studies at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in 2022 (form 1) to 2024 (form 3) and transferred to KVLD early this year. The incident involving Zara Qairina occurred when my daughter no longer studies at the school.

“Her photo was shared in a video that was uploaded by an account on Tik Tok saying she was the murderer of Zara Qairina. The video garnered more than 10,000 views and full of negative comments towards our daughter and family,” he said.

The report was also lodged as a reference for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Court if the video involving his daughter was not taken down.

According to Muhammad Yasim, the report was lodged against a Tik Tok user that uploaded his daughter’s photo which was taken in 2024.

He said although the Tik Tok account has apologized and deleted the video, there are some individuals who were still spreading the fake news.

“I strongly denied the slander against my daughter, Nurul Qurratu Aini, and I will not hesitate to take legal action against any individual who links my daughter to this case,” he stressed.

In the meantime, Muhammad Yasim also hopes that people will verify any information before spreading it in the social media as it may cause harm and danger to the innocent people.
