KOTA KINABALU: A spot survey of washing machine retailers in the city has revealed the physical limitations of standard household units, following online speculation related to the death of Zara Qairina.

Retailers said most household models sold locally range from 25kg to 120kg capacity, far smaller than what would be required to fit an adult human.

They added that only industrial machines could accommodate a person’s size, and even then, placing someone inside a running machine would be virtually impossible due to design restrictions.

The machines, they explained, are engineered for compressible, evenly distributed clothing loads, while a human body’s weight and rigidity would cause uneven load distribution and mechanical strain.

The survey results come as Zara’s family lawyers continue urging the public to share credible information directly with police, dismissing social media claims — including one alleging she was put in a washing machine — as unverified and of no investigative value.
