Kota Kinabalu: Lawyers representing the family of Zara Qairina will apply to participate in the upcoming coroner’s inquest into her death, expressing hope that the proceedings will run smoothly and conclude within a short timeframe.

The move follows the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ decision to order an inquest under subsection 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code to determine the cause and circumstances of Zara Qairina’s death, including whether any criminal elements were involved.

In a statement, the legal team comprising Shahlan Jufri, Rizwandean M Borhan and Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi expressed their gratitude for the Attorney-General’s decision, saying all matters they had requested in their Aug 5 letter have been fulfilled.

“Justice for Zara is our main objective in all the actions we take,” they said.

The coroner’s inquest represents a formal judicial inquiry that will examine the circumstances surrounding the death and determine whether further legal action may be warranted. 

Such inquests are typically ordered when there are questions about the cause or manner of death that require official investigation.
