Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old man was jailed 12 months by the Magistrate’s Court, Wednesday, for breaking into a company storeroom and stealing equipment.
Self-employed Irwan Affandi pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence with accomplices still at large at a store belonging to Galilee Design and Build in Sadong Jaya here, at 1.15am on May 13, 2024, and theft of a welding machine set, a cable set and a cutting machine.
The offence under Section 457 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, and up to 14 years in prison if the intended offence is theft.
The court heard from the prosecution that a police report was lodged on May 19, last year by the complainant, who said his company’s storeroom had been broken into.
He was informed by an employee that the storeroom showed signs of forced entry and several items were missing.
CCTV footage showed the men entering the premises and taking the items.
In another case, a man was charged with assaulting another man.
Md Latif Md Shuib, 30, pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman, at 3.30am on June 12, this year in front of a club in Penampang.
The charge, framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.
The court fixed Oct 14 for mention and released the accused on a bail of RM1,500.
