TAWAU: Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the assault of an 18-year-old female student at a row of shop premises in Jalan Kuhara last week.
Acting district police chief Supt Champin Piuh said the incident was reported to have taken place in the commercial area before officers moved in to detain the suspect.
He said the teenager was arrested by a district criminal investigation team near Eastern Plaza shopping centre at about 4pm on Wednesday.
Initial investigations revealed the victim had met the suspect on Aug 7 after getting to know him over the phone, but declined his invitation to go to a hotel.
The suspect allegedly became aggressive, forcing and punching the victim’s arm and stomach, leaving her with bruises and pain.
