TAWAU: A foreign man in his 30s was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly punched his wife for taking too long to open the door to their rented room.
The incident occurred around midnight at a building along Jalan Dunlop, while the suspect was detained by police at 1.50am in the town area, said Acting Tawau District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh.
According to police, the man had returned home and became enraged when his wife, in her 50s, did not open the door quickly, resulting in him assaulting her.
“The woman sustained bruises and injuries on her arm, and lodged a police report which led to the suspect’s arrest by the roadside,” Champin said.
He stressed that police take domestic violence cases seriously and will not hesitate to take firm action against perpetrators.
Champin also urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions in domestic disputes and to report any cases of abuse without delay.
