KUNAK: More than 12,000 people gathered at Dataran Boheyan Plaza – AS Centre in town on Saturday evening for the Justice for Zara solidarity assembly.

Participants, many dressed in black and carrying placards, began arriving as early as 6pm to call for justice in the case of 13-year-old Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.

With the plaza filled to capacity, others chose to stand at nearby areas including Kunak Plaza and Uptown Square, showing their support for the community-driven initiative.

The event, jointly organised by AS Centre and the Kunak community’s Facebook network, ran until 9.30pm and featured prayers, Yassin recitations, poetry, and public messages of solidarity.

Representatives from non-governmental organisations, political leaders, and social media influencers also joined the gathering, which concluded peacefully under police supervision.
