GRS leaders remind Mustapha that stability is key to Sabah’s progress

KOTA KINABALU: Pantai Dalit assemblyman Datuk Jasnih Daya has called for caution in political statements after Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who is also Sepanggar MP, described Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as a liability to Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Jasnih, who is also Pantai Dalit Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) chief, said the remark was unfounded and risked straining the relationship among component parties within the state government.

He expressed surprise at the statement and reminded that many PH leaders, including those in PKR, continued to work closely with GRS, which has been an important partner in state administration.

While acknowledging the role of the media in reporting political views, Jasnih urged Mustapha to be more careful when issuing statements, warning that such remarks could weaken unity rather than strengthen it.

At the same time, Darau Gagasan Rakyat Youth also voiced its concern, saying Mustapha should prioritise addressing long-standing issues faced by the people in Sepanggar, such as unstable water supply, road conditions and power disruptions.

Darau Gagasan Rakyat Youth chief Abqaree Fawwaz Abekan said local residents continued to face these challenges daily and looked to their elected representative for solutions rather than political exchanges through the media.

Both Jasnih and Abqaree emphasised that political stability must remain the focus, as it is closely tied to development efforts under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) policy that aims to improve the wellbeing of the people.
