Kota Kinabalu: The late Zara Qairina Mahathir’s mother, Noraidah Lamat, will be one of the witnesses in the inquest hearing into her daughter’s death.
Hamid Ismail who led the legal team for Zara’s family, informed this to media when asked about the witnesses during the hearing of inquest.
“Zara’s mother will be present in court as a witness in the inquest. We will be able to question the witnesses if our application to be included as interested parties in the inquest proceedings is allowed.
“For now, our status is as a watching brief cum the legal representatives of Zara’s family,” Hamid said when speaking to reporters after the court proceedings on Monday.
Hamid informed the media that his team would be filing their applications this week to be included as interested parties and would also request that the relevant documents be served to them.
According to Hamid, they were still no idea about the number of the witnesses in the inquest but all the individuals who were called by the police before, would be called to testify.
He said that among the individuals who had been called were students and teachers.
When asked about Zara’s mother, Hamid said she was very happy with the Prime minister’s assurance, that no one will escape the law.
Hamid added that Zara’s mother also appealed to all witnesses, especially the students, not to be afraid.
