Kota Kinabalu: For the first time ever, the National Day-Sabah Day 2025 celebration was enlivened with a cheerleading squad performance called “Tangga Merdeka”.
The cheer squad, made up of members of the Sabah Anti-Drug Squad Youth, students and Sabah Youth Council affiliates under the Youth and Sports Ministry, played a role in lifting the spirit and atmosphere of the celebration along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen here Sunday.
Coordinated by the Sabah Youth Council, the 300-strong Tangga Merdeka team comprised representatives from the Sabah Anti-Drug Squad, Malaysian Scouts Association Sabah branch, Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) Sabah, Malaysian Girl Guides Association Sabah branch, Malaysian St John Ambulance Sabah, Malaysian Muslim Girls Movement (Puteri Islam) Sabah, Malaysian Boys’ Brigade, Malaysian Red Crescent Sabah branch, Interior South Youth Associations Federation, Cultural Youth Association, Sepanggar Youth Association, National Muslim Students Association (PKPIM) Sabah, Almacrest International College, Asian Tourism International College and University College Sabah Foundation.
Tangga Merdeka also included several selected schools, among them Sabah Foundation College of Technology, SM Stella Maris, SMK Tansau, SMK Bahang, Limbanak Sixth Form Centre, SMK Limbanak, Kota Kinabalu Sixth Form College, SMKA Kota Kinabalu, SMK Likas Girls’ School, SMK Likas, All Saints Secondary School, SMK Tebobon, SM Lok Yuk, Nadi Kingfisher Integrated Primary Tahfiz School and Saimon Fung Primary School.
