Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew is set to receive one of Asia’s most prestigious engineering accolades after being named an Honorary Fellow of the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO).
The official conferment ceremony will take place during the 43rd Conference of AFEO in Clark, Philippines on Oct 30.
The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch made a special courtesy call on Christina recently to deliver the exciting news of her appointment, which was approved by AFEO’s Governing Board during their Vietnam meeting last month.
Led by Branch Chairman Datuk Mohd Yaakob, the IEM delegation praised Christina’s exceptional contribution to the engineering profession, particularly her role in making last year’s 42nd Conference of AFEO in Kota Kinabalu a success.
“Her recognition as AFEO Honorary Fellow is a moment of pride not only for her personally, but also for Sabah and Malaysia,” said Mohd Yaakob.
The prestigious Honorary Fellow title, which carries the post-nominal Hon. FAFEO, is reserved for individuals who have rendered outstanding service to engineering, institutions and their nation.
Christina’s support helped strengthen regional engineering collaboration while showcasing Sabah’s unique culture and sustainability commitment.
She joins an elite group of distinguished professionals recognised for their exceptional contributions to advancing engineering excellence across Southeast Asia.
