Kota Kinabalu: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch commended the outstanding dedication shown by Sabah Electricity (SE) teams in their relentless efforts to restore power following the recent devastating landslides across districts in Sabah.
“As engineers, we understand the complexities involved in disaster response and the importance of meticulous planning, technical expertise and on-the-ground coordination,” said IEM Sabah Vice Chairman Tan KJ, in a statement, here.
“IEM Sabah acknowledges the enormous challenges faced by SE and recogniSes their efforts as a shining example of engineering excellence in action,” Tan said.
It highlighted how SE’s teams, under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, have worked tirelessly despite facing unpredictable weather conditions, treacherous terrain and severely limited access to affected areas.
Their commitment to installing temporary towers and restoring electricity supply while maintaining strict safety protocols has earned widespread recognition from the engineering community.
What particularly impressed IEM Sabah was the hands-on leadership demonstrated during the crisis.
Mohd Yaakob visited affected sites alongside his technical teams, showing accountability and solidarity that reinforced the message that professional dedication and teamwork can overcome any challenge.
The recent landslides caused extensive damage to essential infrastructure, leaving thousands without electricity and disrupting daily life across several districts.
However, SE’s engineers and technical staff responded without hesitation, working around the clock to restore power to homes, businesses and essential services.
IEM Sabah has also expressed gratitude to affected communities for their patience and understanding during the restoration process. The cooperation and support of local residents play a vital role in facilitating recovery efforts and ensuring the safety of all personnel working in hazardous conditions,” Tan said.
Looking ahead, IEM Sabah pointed out the importance of developing both immediate solutions and long-term strategies to enhance Sabah’s infrastructure resilience.
The organisation has committed to supporting SE, government agencies and other stakeholders in creating practical, sustainable measures to minimise the impact of future natural disasters.
“In these trying times, it is inspiring to witness the courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment of SE staff.
“They remind us that even in the face of adversity, dedicated engineers and technical personnel are at the forefront, ensuring the lights stay on and communities can continue their daily lives,” said Tan.
The IEM Sabah extended the salute to the engineers, technicians and frontline staff of SE for their remarkable efforts and exemplary dedication, noting that Sabah’s communities owe them a debt of gratitude for their courage and tireless work in power restoration and recovery support efforts.
