KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin has urged both Federal and State Governments to work together in good faith to uphold Sabah’s constitutional rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
He said this following a special briefing by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the Sabah Special Grant, where the Federal Government reaffirmed its respect for the legal process and commitment to study the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s written judgment.
Chan proposed that the MA63 Technical Committee under JKTMTPMA63 be empowered to lead the 40pc entitlement review within the 90-day period set by the Court.
He added that both governments are formulating a new mechanism for calculating the Special Grant in line with MA63’s spirit and called on the Finance Ministry to disclose Sabah’s federal revenue contribution to ensure transparency.
“This marks a significant step in strengthening federal-state cooperation and ensuring fair development for the people of Sabah,” he said.
