KOTA KINABALU: The Coroner’s Court will hear a contempt of court committal application against Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal on Dec 1, over his alleged remarks related to the inquest into Zara Qairina Mahathir’s death.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said in a Monday statement that the committal papers were served on Shafie in Tawau on Nov 3, following leave granted by Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan on Oct 23.
He must respond within 14 days under Order 52 Rule 3(2) of the Rules of Court 2012.
In an earlier proceeding, the court was told a show-cause notice was issued to Shafie on Sept 23, and he replied via his counsel on Sept 29.
The same Dec 1 date has also been set for activist Che Muna Din, known as Mona Din, involving similar alleged remarks. The committal papers were served on her at her Shah Alam residence on Nov 1.
Leave for contempt actions against both Shafie and Che Muna was granted on Oct 23, following submissions by Deputy Public Prosecutors Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalan and Nadia Mohd Izhar.
