LAHAD DATU: PKR is highly likely to field a candidate to contest the Segama State Assembly (DU) seat.
Sabah PKR Leadership Council Chairman, Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, said the decision will be finalized after negotiations between Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
“With the current progress in the discussions, we pray that Segama will ultimately become one of the seats contested by Pakatan Harapan, particularly by the People’s Justice Party (PKR),” he said.
He said this when met at the Jelajah Harapan Urang Sabah @ DUN Segama program held at Dewan Kampung Sabah Baru 2, officiated by PKR Deputy President, Nurul Izzah Anwar on Sunday.
When asked about the possibility of a clash with BN in the Segama seat, Mustapha clarified that such a situation would not occur, following the negotiation framework between PH and BN.
He explained that under the agreement, when PH fields a candidate in a constituency, PH will not compete against BN or GRS.
“This is a fundamental principle. So far, it has been respected by all parties,” he added.
Earlier, when asked about the candidate for the Segama seat, Nurul Izzah said that the discussions were progressing very positively.
However, she noted that any final decision regarding the matter would first be conveyed to the Sabah PKR Leadership Council Chairman.
Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah said PKR has always been committed to addressing the issues faced by the people of Sabah.
She added that PKR also aims to fulfill the promises previously made to the people of Sabah.
“I hope the people will not be influenced by sentiments labeling PKR as a Malayan party, but instead assess us based on facts and the tangible efforts carried out by PKR,” she said.
In her speech earlier, Nurul Izzah urged the people to look back at history and facts to understand PKR’s struggle for the people.
She emphasized that Sabah is always close to the heart of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR President, and that he wants Sabah to progress alongside the Madani vision.
Various efforts have been made, including resolving nine matters under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), providing interim funding, and allocating the highest federal budget for Sabah.
Therefore, Nurul Izzah hopes the people will evaluate political parties based on results, truth, and facts so that Sabah can continue to develop alongside the Madani government.
