SEMPORNA: The Marine Police Force (MPF) foiled an attempt to smuggle petrol out of Sabah waters following an operation at Pulau Boheian and Tanjung Manimpa in Semporna on Monday night.
Sabah Region Four MPF Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the operation, which ran from 7.50pm to 3.45am, was carried out based on intelligence about ongoing smuggling activities in the area.
He said two speedboats carrying 112 gallons of petrol believed to be bound for a neighbouring country were intercepted during the operation.
Two foreign nationals suspected of involvement in the smuggling attempt were detained, with the seized boats and fuel valued at RM111,277.75.
Mohd Nazri said the case will be investigated under the Control of Supply Act 1961, adding that patrols and intelligence efforts will continue to curb smuggling activities that threaten national security and the economy.
