Improving the access to education, skills in estates

TAWAU: For decades, children and youth from migrant families living in Sabah’s oil palm plantations have faced formidable barriers to education.

In remote plantation areas in the district, access to schools is limited, transportation is scarce and socio-economic challenges make consistent attendance difficult.

For many migrant children, these obstacles are compounded by legal and citizenship issues. Without proper documentation, they are often excluded from mainstream public schooling altogether.

Language differences, poverty and the need to help with work at home or in the plantations further limit opportunities to learn and develop critical skills.
