KOTA KINABALU: A Sessions Court judge reprimanded a defence counsel who sought to postpone a corruption case hearing because the lawyer handling the case planned to contest in the upcoming 17th Sabah Legislative Assembly General Election (GE).
Judge Elsie Primus issued the stern reminder when another counsel, appearing on behalf of lawyer Rahimah Majid, asked for the hearing to be deferred.
Elsie reminded the court that the case had been ongoing since 2023 and that all related documents had been served, rejecting the request for delay.
The court maintained the hearing dates for Dec 1-3 this year.
Rahimah represents company owner Bakruni Juani, who faces two counts of submitting false claims totalling RM556,900 under the Penjana Kerjaya 1.0 and 2.0 programmes involving 99 names allegedly used to deceive Socso, and has been released on bail.
