Two Ranau students in fight to face disciplinary action
RANAU: Police have taken appropriate action after a video of a fight involving two students of a secondary school here went viral on social media.

The incident occurred outside the school grounds, near a food stall about 20 metres from the main gate of the school, recently.

Initial investigations revealed the fight stemmed from a taunt against a motorcycle belonging to one of the students. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.

On Friday (Nov 7), the school held a meeting with the parents and students involved.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
During the meeting, all parties agreed to resolve the issue at the school level without involving a police report, since the two students are related.

As a measure, both students will undergo disciplinary action after the school’s disciplinary board holds a meeting later.

The police and the school would like to emphasise that student safety and discipline are always a priority.

The Ranau IPD called on the public not to spread the video so as to protect the privacy and future of the students involved.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun recently stated that the act of enforcing the law on students is a form of psychological and mental violation against the school students themselves.

Instead, he said, the focus should be on efforts to shape the students so that they become good people, thus not being involved in harmful activities.

“In this case, we ask parents, who have the most time with their children, to play an important role in this formation,” he said.

“The role of the police in controlling students from getting involved in crime is not much since the period of monitoring by the police through the School Liaison Officer is not long.

“What we can do is provide awareness through talks, and it is best that the role of controlling students from getting involved in crime is shared by all parties,” he said.

Furthermore, he said, the frequent presence of  police in a school would create a negative perception of the community towards the school in question.
