KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the decision by two former Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan RakyatI leaders to contest under Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) reflects democratic freedom that should be respected.
The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman said every individual in a democratic system has the right to choose which party they wish to represent, describing it as a healthy sign of Sabah’s political maturity.
He was referring to Datuk Jamawi Jaafar and Datuk George Hiew, both former Gagasan Rakyat leaders who were recently named as PKR candidates.
Hajiji, who is also Gagasan Rakyat president, said the move does not pose any issue for GRS or his party, noting that it mirrors the State’s dynamic political landscape and that his coalition will continue to support them as Unity Government candidates.
On Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick’s resignation from the Federal Cabinet, Hajiji declined to comment further, saying the State Government has already issued a statement and hopes Putrajaya will not proceed with an appeal on the 40 per cent revenue entitlement case.
