Liberal Democratic Party staying out for the sake of Chinese votes
Nicholas stressed that LDP will continue to strengthen its community engagement efforts, deepen cooperation with youth groups, SMEs and social organisations, and advocate for policies that better serve Sabah’s long-term interests.
Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Information Chief Nicholas Ban said the party fully supports the decision of party President Datuk Chin Su Phin to stay out of the Nov 29 state election.

He said the decision does not reflect retreat nor indicates the party has lost confidence.

Instead, it is guided by the principle of placing the “bigger picture and people’s interests first,” while avoiding splitting of votes that could weaken the representation and voice of the local Chinese community in the State Legislative Assembly.

“Competition in several Chinese-majority constituencies is increasingly intense. If votes are further divided among multiple parties, the ultimate loser will be the community itself.

Kota Kinabalu: KOTA KINABALU: Fiesta Mega Raya (FMR) 2026 is set to be the largest and most prestigious Hari Raya celebration in Sabah, taking place from March 7 to 18, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.
“At this critical juncture, LDP is willing to make concessions in order to safeguard the collective political strength of the Chinese community,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.

He said political stability is crucial for attracting investment, stimulating economic growth, creating job opportunities and securing a better future for Sabah’s youths.

“LDP supports continued governance under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to ensure policy continuity and sustained development, while avoiding unnecessary political turbulence.

“As a local-based party, we remain committed to the localisation agenda, defending state rights, serving grassroots communities and listening to the voices of the people. Choosing not to contest this round is a strategic decision, a reflection of a mature political party’s responsibility and wisdom,” he said.

Nicholas stressed that LDP will continue to strengthen its community engagement efforts, deepen cooperation with youth groups, SMEs and social organisations, and advocate for policies that better serve Sabah’s long-term interests.

“Sabah’s future demands steady policies, a united society and long-term development vision.

“LDP is prepared to take the lead by making a responsible decision and redoubling our grassroots service efforts, because that is the true meaning of politics,” he said.
