KUNAK: Umno Lahad Datu Youth Chief and BN Youth Exco Datuk Seri Anil Sandhu, has been picked as Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Kunak seat in the 17th Sabah state election on Nov 29.
The announcement was made by BN Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday.
Anil said the candidacy is a big challenge to restore voter confidence in Kunak.
He highlighted BN’s record in bringing development to the area since 1994, before Warisan took over in 2018.
“As a local who grew up in Kunak, I am ready to serve all communities regardless of race, culture, or religion,” he said.
Anil has been with Umno since 2008 and cited the late Datuk Nilwan Kabang, former Kunak assemblyman, as his mentor.
He said leaving or changing parties is not an option and he is committed to carrying BN’s mission forward.
He said BN’s machinery in Kunak had been active for years, engaging residents and providing help even when the seat was held by Warisan from 2018 to 2023, before the assemblyman switched support to GRS.
