KOTA KINABALU: Former Inanam Gagasan Rakyat Division Chief Datuk Dr Roland Chia Ming Shen has announced that he will contest the N18 Inanam seat as an independent candidate in the 17th Sabah state election (PRN17).

Dr Chia said his decision was made in response to the wishes of Inanam voters.

"A significant segment of voters in N18 Inanam have voiced their support for me to represent them. Therefore, I have formally resigned from Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah effective Nov 14.

"I will be standing as an independent candidate to exercise my democratic rights as a Sabahan and a Malaysian in this state election," he said during nomination day at Dewan Maksak on Saturday.
