PENAMPANG: SM St. Michael Penampang showcased their innovative project, “GlycoSmart Rice: A Revolutionary Innovation Enhanced With Saba Green Banana Resistant Starch”, at this year’s Science Castle Asia, on Oct 18–19 at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya.
Led by Principal Jackson Sigo @ Siga, the team of five students — Gemma Avery Asing, Henrietta Cayla John Baptist, Arlleney Tia Fedilis, Ally Alexandra Edmund Labunda, Anastacharl Ryan Roniun — and their teacher advisor Erica Olivia Henry represented the state.
Earlier this year, they were selected as one of the Science Castle Grant 2025 recipients, one of only ten secondary schools chosen nationwide. Over five months, the students dedicated themselves to research, preparation, and collaboration under their teacher’s guidance.
Their efforts were rewarded with the Special Award presented by Ajinomoto Malaysia Berhad, marking a proud milestone for the school and highlighting its commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and innovation.
The team will next represent Malaysia at Science Castle World 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, this December, showcasing their project alongside young researchers from around the globe.
The students expressed heartfelt thanks to their teachers and mentor for their dedication and guidance, which brought recognition to both the school and the nation.
