TAWAU: Police have arrested a 26-year-old local security guard suspected of sexually harassing a female worker at a convenience shop in Kampung Andrassy last weekend.
District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was detained in front of a tyre shop along Jalan Apas at about 1.30am on Thursday following information provided by the 20-year-old victim.
He said the incident reportedly occurred around 5pm when the man approached the victim while she was working at the payment counter before allegedly touching her body, prompting her to push his hand away and lodge a police report.
Jasmin said police seized a black shirt and a branded bag believed to have been used by the suspect during the incident, and confirmed the man is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code.
He added that background checks showed the suspect had a previous record under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, and urged women working alone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour immediately.
