KOTA KINABALU: The Energy Commission of Sabah (Ecos) has issued prohibition notices to 10 premises in the city for selling controlled electrical and gas products without the mandatory Sirim safety label.
Ecos said the enforcement operation was carried out to ensure only tested and certified products are allowed in the market in line with the Electrical Supply Regulations 2024 and Gas Supply Regulations 2023.
Chief executive Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid said the premises were ordered to withdraw the items from sale within 14 days, failing which legal action may be taken, including product seizure.
He warned that offenders could face fines of up to RM20,000 or two years’ imprisonment for non-compliant electrical goods, while unlabelled gas appliances could attract penalties of up to RM500,000 with additional daily fines for continued breaches.
Nasser also reminded consumers to choose certified products to reduce risks such as short circuits, electric shocks, fires, injuries or property damage.
