Kota Kinabalu: Police arrested a married couple on suspicion of drug trafficking following a raid on a vehicle at the Likas Plaza public car park, at 9.40pm, on Wednesday.
The operation conducted by the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department led to the discovery of six transparent plastic packets containing 302.08gm of suspected syabu with an estimated street value of RM21,000.
The drugs were hidden inside a blue package in the vehicle.
Sabah CID Chief ACP Alhusin Halil said police attempted to stop the white Perodua Aruz after receiving intelligence about drug distribution activities, but the driver acted aggressively by reversing the vehicle in an attempt to escape.
“The action forced our raiding team to break the driver’s side window before the suspect was apprehended,” he said, Thursday.
Following questioning, the suspect admitted to possessing drugs and surrendered the blue package that had been placed near the rear passenger foot- well.
Witnessed by the suspect, the raiding team examined the package and found six plastic packets containing crystal-like chunks suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 302.08gm.
Further inspection of the vehicle found no other contraband and police seized two mobile phones to assist with investigations.
The 31-year-old male suspect, who works as an e-hailing driver, has one prior drug-related record, while his 27-year-old wife has no criminal history. Both tested negative in preliminary urine screenings.
Alhusin said operations against drug trafficking will continue and urged the public to come forward with information to help police combat narcotics activities in Sabah.
