Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old man was jailed three months by the Magistrate’s Court here for assaulting his wife.
Samson Wong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to voluntarily causing hurt to his 25-year-old wife at 7am on Dec 11 at their home in Taman Ceriamas, Putatan.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A.
Under Section 323, an offender faces imprisonment of up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both while Section 326A provides for enhanced punishment, allowing the court to impose up to double the maximum sentence when the offence is committed against a spouse.
The court heard from the prosecution that a domestic argument broke out between the couple, during which Samson assaulted his wife by hitting her on the head, hands and legs.
As a result, the victim suffered bruises to her face, hands and legs and experienced pain all over her body.
The victim later sought treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital here before lodging a police report.
Police arrested Samson at the house at 7.40am the same day to assist in investigations.
In another case, a 26-year-old man was fined RM1,800 or three months’ jail in default for abetting mischief involving copper cables.
Mohamad Affendy Ibrahim pleaded guilty to abetting two other individuals, who are still at large, in damaging copper cables belonging to Elemen Utara KK
Condominium, between 3.17am and 4.45am on April 9, 2024, on the 26th floor of the condominium building in Manggatal.
He was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code read together with Section 431A, which carries a jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented Affendy requested a lenient sentence.
