TELUPID: A two-storey semi-wooden house was completely destroyed in a fire at Kampung Telupid, near the Fresh Market Telupid, on Sunday night.
Beluran Fire and Rescue Station Chief PPgB Edoen Michael, said the emergency call was received at 8.07pm, and the fire engine arrived at the scene at 10.25pm after travelling approximately 100 kilometres.
The house, measuring about 50 by 50 feet, was already fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
“Firefighters carried out suppression operations using a 200-foot hose line with one jet, drawing water from the FRT engine tank,” he said in a statement.
The fire was fully brought under control at 12.05am on 22 December and the operation concluded at 12.24am after a thorough inspection confirmed there was no further danger.
Edoen confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire and the extent of losses are still under investigation.
The operation demonstrated the challenges faced by firefighters in reaching remote areas, with a delay of over two hours due to the distance from Beluran to Telupid.
Authorities have urged residents to ensure fire safety measures are observed, particularly in wooden houses, as a precaution during the festive season.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of rapid emergency response and community awareness in preventing property loss and ensuring safety.
