RANAU: A 37-year-old local man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a housebreaking case in Kg Mohimboyon, Ranau, which resulted in the loss of cash and several mobile phones.
According to police, the victim, a 31-year-old local man, discovered his kitchen door slightly open upon returning home.
Upon inspection, he found RM700 in cash, an iPhone 16 Pro, and a Poco F5 Pro missing. The total estimated loss was around RM7,700. A police report was subsequently filed at the Ranau Police Station.
Acting on information, officers from the Ranau IPD Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect on January 13, 2026, at around 11.16am at an unnumbered house in Kg Mohimboyon.
He is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years, a fine, and in repeat cases, possible whipping.
In a separate case, police arrested a 32-year-old local man for alleged drug abuse during Ops Tapis, conducted last Thursday near a construction site in Kg Muruk, Ranau.
Officers found 0.13 grammes of methamphetamine hidden in a cigarette box.
The suspect faces charges under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with penalties under Section 12(3), which include a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both if convicted.
