Kota Kinabalu: A lifeguard saved two men from their burning vessel off Tanjung Aru beach here Saturday.
The incident happened at about 10am when the boat, travelling to a nearby island, was suddenly engulfed in flames.
Both men jumped into the water after suffering significant burns.
Yunus Jo Hari, a lifeguard stationed at the Civil Defence Force centres’ beachfront, responded immediately and pulled them to safety from the water.
The injured victims received first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been disclosed.

While authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the fire, early reports suggest it may have been sparked by a discarded cigarette. An investigation is underway.
