TAWAU: A foreign national was arrested after allegedly running amok and threatening his mother with a machete at an unnumbered house in Kampung Vietnam, Tanjung Batu Laut, here, on Saturday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, who is the victim’s biological son, allegedly became aggressive following a family dispute in an incident that occurred at about 12.20am.
“The suspect was reported to have been carrying a machete and a slingshot, and also damaged the wall of the house, causing his mother, who is in her 60s, to fear for her safety before lodging a police report,” he said in a statement here on Monday.
Jasmin said the suspect was subsequently arrested by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at about 4.30pm on the same day the report was made.
Police also seized an item of evidence in the form of a sheathed bladed weapon believed to have been used by the suspect to threaten his mother.
“The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for residing in the country without valid identification documents,” he said.
Jasmin advised the public to avoid losing control when dealing with family-related issues, particularly acts of aggression against one’s own parents.
He also urged members of the public to promptly report any untoward incidents, including acts of violence that may threaten the safety of individuals or family members, to enable the police to take immediate action.
