KUNAK: A lorry driver was injured while his attendant escaped unharmed in an accident at KM5 Jalan Kunak–Tawau near the Simpang Empat roundabout here on Wednesday morning.
The lorry, carrying a load of zinc and travelling from Tawau to Tingkayu, Kunak, was believed to have suffered brake failure, causing it to lose control and collide with another vehicle entering the roundabout from the right before plunging into a large roadside drain.
A road sign near the roundabout was damaged in the collision, while the driver was trapped in the driver’s seat and was freed with the help of members of the public before the Kunak Fire and Rescue Department arrived.
The injured driver was taken to hospital for further treatment, and police were at the scene to conduct investigations.
