PUTATAN: A fire damaged 17 stilt houses at Kampung Dumpil, here, Thursday. No casualties were reported.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.59am and arrived at the scene, approximately 4km away, five minutes later.
The blaze involved 17 non-permanent houses.
Fourteen of the houses were completely destroyed, one suffered about 50 per cent damage and two others sustained roughly 10 per cent damage.
A total of 22 firefighters from Putatan, Kota Kinabalu and Penampang were deployed to tackle the fire.
They were assisted by personnel from Sabah Electricity and the police, as well as water sourced from nearby rivers and fire trucks.
The fire was brought under control at 8.04am and the operations ended at 12.51pm after authorities ensured the area was safe.
