SEMPORNA: A man was arrested with 22 bottles of suspected ketum juice during an operation conducted by the Kunak 22nd Battalion General Operation Force (GOF) at Semporna town, here, on Sunday.
During the operation which was conducted with the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) of Semporna Police Headquarters, the team spotted a suspicious man carrying a sack.
The Kunak 22nd Battalion GOF in a statement on Wednesday said, result of inspection found seven plastic bottles (1.5 litres in size) containing liquid believed to be ketum juice.
Further investigation led the team to the suspect’s house, about 50 meters from where he was arrested and found another 15 bottles inside an ice box.
Also seized were some support equipment. All the seizures were estimated worth RM990.
“The suspect and the seizures were handed over to the BSJND of Semporna Police Headquarters for further investigation. Investigation would be carried out under Section 30(3) of the Poison Acts 1952,” said Kunak 22nd Battalion.
In the meantime, the operation reflected the effectiveness of action based on intelligence and public tip off in combating the storage and distribution of illegal substances.
The operation also further strengthened cooperation between the Kunak 22nd Battalion GOF with other agencies in combating criminal activities including the abuse of ketum in this district.
